We examined the performance of airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data obtained in 2011 for leaf area estimation deciduous broad-leaved forest using Beer–Lambert law Takayama, Gifu, Japan. estimated index (LAI, allometry-LAI) vertical density (LAD) field survey by applying allometric equations to estimate leaf-area trees a Weibull distribution equation distribution. then extinction coefficients (Ke) LiDAR three height layers from ground canopy top LAD laser pulse The PAI (LiDAR-PAI) Ke, when treating canopies as layers, showed significant linear relationship with allometry-LAI (p < 0.001). However, LiDAR-PAI single layer saturated at six.
